Everything you need to know about hiring the Kūaotunu Hall

Where to find the hall

The Kūaotunu Hall is located at 12 Black Jack Rd, Kūaotunu, in the heart of one of the most special villages on the Coromandel Peninsula.

Kūaotunu is a small, friendly beach-side community that is minutes away from several other stunning beaches including Otama, Opito, Matarangi and Whangapoua.

The iconic Luke's Kitchen pizza restaurant and the Kua Kawhe cafe are just a short stroll away from the hall, and the Kūaotunu Store with its fabulous ice-cream parlour is just across the road.

The Kūaotunu Hall is 20 minutes from Whitianga and 2.5 hours from Auckland airport.

What sort of events can be held at the Kūaotunu Hall?

The Kūaotunu Hall is suitable for any small to medium event.

Classes, meetings, workshops, dances, functions, weddings, concerts... the choice is yours.

The hall can host a maximum of 100 people at any function (or 80 where guests are to be seated for the purposes of a meal).

Services provided

The Kūaotunu Hall can be booked as a venue only (i.e. the Kūaotunu Hall Committee does not supply any event management services). The Hall Committee will contact you with instructions on how to access the hall a few days before your event.

If you want to hire a band, caterers, hairdressers etc, you will need to organise these yourself, and deal with them directly regarding your event.

The interior spaces 

The Kūaotunu Hall offers the following interior spaces:

  • A main room measuring 12.1m by 6.1m.

  • An annex measuring 4.2m by 4.3m (accessible from the kitchen via a servery hatch).

  • A fully functional kitchen that enables you to self-cater for your event if required.

  • Two toilets (one for men and one for women plus disabled people).

  • A storeroom at the back that is used to store the hall furniture (but which can be utilised during your event if required).

  • A small storeroom at the front (not available for hire).

Kitchen facilities   

  • A full size fridge

  • A wine fridge

  • A hot water urn (10L)

  • A domestic electric oven range

  • A microwave

  • A coffee urn

  • Several teapots, saucepans and bowls

  • A selection of plates, teacups & saucers

  • A selection of cutlery

    

Heating & internet

For the colder months the main area of the hall has overhead heaters, which can be turned on by depositing $2 coins into the meter box in the corridor beside the kitchen. There is also a free heat pump in the annex.

The hall does not have wifi, however there is good mobile reception.

Furniture

Every hire of the hall includes full use of the hall's furniture.

The exterior spaces

At the back of the hall there is a grassed area (approximately 9.5m x 10.5m) that is suitable for erecting a marquee, or holding a BBQ. Note that braziers are not permitted.

Being totally enclosed, this space is safe for children. Well-behaved dogs may also be permitted outside, by arrangement.

Booking restrictions

The Kūaotunu Hall Committee reserves the right to accept or reject any booking.

Because the hall is in a residential area, the committee has a policy of accepting no more than two bookings per month that involve alcohol (e.g. adult parties, weddings etc).
   

Hire fees

The fee charged for the hire of the Kūaotunu Hall depends on a number of factors, including whether you are local to the Kūaotunu area or not, how long you are looking to hire the hall for, and what type of event you are planning.   

    

Availability

The hall calendar is kept up-to-date as bookings are received, so we recommend having a look at the calendar to see if the date you want is available.  

No naked flames

Because the Kūaotunu Hall is a historic wooden building, the use of naked flames in the hall is strictly forbidden.

Smoking is forbidden, although this is allowed outside.

Glitter is also not permitted.
