Armistice Day, 11 November 2017 was chosen as the date for the Kuaotunu Hall 1940’s Dance Party organised by Jannine Verner and friends. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the re-opening of the hall after several months of closure following the laying of the new swamp kauri floor.
And what a celebration it was! Swing Fever took Kuatotunu by storm. Furs and full skirts were shaken from mothballs and even several men's suits were dusted off.
The hall was resplendent with old fashioned bunting, and a lounge/snug created with 40's style furniture and artefacts made a wonderful photo booth.
The live entertainment of half of Whitianga’s big band with DJ Johnny rocked the evening and an old fashioned supper was served in true 40's style.
Tom Sayn took out best dressed man...
... while Lynda Reid's war time uniform was the clear winner of the ladies costume.
Mel, Dan, and Kate showed off their fabulous swing style dance routines and shared the prize as best dancers of the night.
Our local community was generous in the donation of prizes for the raffle and including ticket sales we raised over $1000, with all proceeds going towards further refurbishment of the hall.
